Cult Crime’s newest album roars. ‘Fully Automatic’ is the combination of all of Cult Crimes influences forged into steel. No heavy metal posturing or vapid, blatant excess. No hiding behind poor production like they’re trying to release an aesthetic instead of a collection of songs. These 12 tracks of lean Rock ’n’ Roll are delivered with conviction and muscle and land them in the same league as Australia’s Split System. The dirty denim, salty leather are not just visual allegiances to a Mt. Rushmore of Hudson, Chrome, Bailey and Ramone (pick one), this is the whole package and it’s baked into their DNA. There’s no trying to be found here. This is just a pitch perfect Punk Rock band doing exactly what they’re supposed to do. No lie, Dying In The City is the best R’n’R song I’ve heard this year. And in an era where every pure form of music devolves into an unrecognizable sludge of muck that at best fails to impress or is immediately forgotten, I welcome the past.
